Genealogy Family Writers User Group

The program meets at the Carter Creek Treatment Facility at the end of North Forect Rd. in College Station from 9:30 - 11:00 AM. These programs are free.

Meetings 2019

January 9, 2019 - "Civil War Ancestors" by Rhonda Bauer and Bob Hensz. Bob Hensz will talk about 2 civil war ancestors, William Giesenslag and Moses McIntyre and some of the battles they fought in. William Giesenslag joined the 5th Texas Cavalry, CSA in Brenham, TX ,then left the regiment at some point and joined the 2nd Texas Cavalry USA (Union) early in 1865. His other ancestor, Moses McIntyre was in the 58th Indiana volunteer Infantry. 

Henry Hanson will talk about his civil war ancestor, Marion Benjamin Sturkey who joined Hampton's Legion, in South Carolina, which later became part of Hood's TX Brigade. Hampton's Legion fought at some of the most famous battles in the Civil War in Virginia.

March 13, 2019 - "Signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence" - Presented by Henry Hanson, Virginia Asiz, Mary Jane Millender and Shelby Rowen

May 8, 2019 - "The King's Daughters" presented by Pam Johnson. Almost 800 young women were selected by King Louis XIV to go to Quebec as brides for his soldiers stationed there between 1663-1875.
